Our co-directors spent this past week in Washington D.C., witnessing history and looking to the future as responsible citizens. D2 presented our research on technology in closed societies and had several exciting meetings with groups doing incredible work, some of whom might turn out to be great partners. San Francisco is the hub for the world’s largest technology companies. On Thursday, Nov. 13 we participated in a fantastic roundtable discussion at USIP on the role of youth in the process of peace-building in Burma. Twenty-five people from a range of organizations including the Center for Peace Building International, USAID, USIP, the State Department and PACT International came together to discuss observations, experiences, lessons learned and ways forward for involving and strengthening youth in peace-building. Women’s Commission follow-up and looking ahead Women’s Commission follow-up and looking ahead
Last Thursday November 6 we presented our research from the Thai-Burma border at The Women’s Commission in New York City. The presentation was a success, presenting to an audience of about 40 people, we were able to cover the issues within our report, as well as some of our additional findings from Burma’s other borders (India, Bangladesh, and China). In addition we showed a short film Under the Sun: Life on the Thai-Burma Border that we shot in Thailand at the same time the initial research for the report was being completed. The film provided visual context for the report, in addition to the photos from around the borders, which accompanied the slides displaying our findings, used during the presentation. Read more…
